Community Services Unit

The Community Services Unit is comprised of a two police constables. The four pillars of the unit are: education, inclusion, opportunity and functioning families. The officers in the unit have multiple portfolios including school liaison and community presentations.

  • Our school programming is aligned with and supports the curriculum and includes modules for every grade in elementary school, including KIDS (Knowledge, Issues, Decisions, and Supports) program for Grade 6 students. We also support the CAA Safety Patroller program. We work with our local high schools to deliver programming to students on an as needed, issue specific basis such as Illicit Street Drug Awareness, Cyber Bullying, Mental Health Awareness, and Social Media Issues.
  • The Service’s interactions with youth are managed using a proactive and preventative approach, with the emphasis being on restorative justice rather than punitive enforcement.
  • The Unit also ensures that all legislated safety protocols like lockdown and bomb threat procedures are practiced in every school in preparation of any emergency with at least two drills completed at every school annually.
  • The Unit also helps new comers to Peterborough adapt to life in Canada by working with the New Canadians Centre and the International Students programs at both Trent University and Fleming College.
