Online Tool Explores Police-Reported Data Around Hate/Bias Incidents 2021-2025

As part of the 2023-2026 Proceeds of Crime Grant from the Government of Ontario, the Peterborough Police Service has created an online visual tool to help bring awareness and understanding about police-reported hate/bias data to the public.

“I believe sharing this police-reported data with the public is important to understanding what is happening in our community. As a Police Service we know that incidents involving hate/bias are often underreported. I hope that if the public is aware of how the justice system can address hate crime/hate bias and that reporting such incidents is important, more people will feel comfortable coming forward.” Stuart Betts, Chief of Police, Peterborough Police Service.

A new web portal asking for the public’s help to identify people of interest in open investigations. These bulletins will be posted publicly after all other investigative leads have been exhausted and will remain active for a period of 30 days before being automatically removed.

Technology is an important part of helping officers keep our communities safe. The Peterborough Police Service uses several different technologies including Remotely Piloted Aircraft System (RPAS), in-car cameras, and the cameras in the CCTV Program.

Where we serve

Uniform Community Patrol is divided into six different areas. Areas 1, 2, 3, 4 are within the City of Peterborough. Area 5 is the Village of Lakefield and Area 6 the Township of Cavan Monaghan.

Each area is supported by a team officers on each of the four platoons. These officers focus on team policing, community policing and problem-oriented policing for their designated area.
