Statement from Stuart Betts, Chief, Peterborough Police Service

Today, I am advising the community that I have accepted the resignation of Mackenzie (Max) Rogers, effective June 9, 2026. This resignation was a condition of my agreeing to have the Crown Attorney’s office permit Mr. Rogers to plead guilty to one of the several criminal charges he was facing.

Today (Wednesday, June 10, 2026), Mr. Rogers pled guilty to Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000 and will return to court August 24, 2026, for sentencing.

As Chief of Police, nothing is more angering than to know that a trusted member of the police service crossed the line into criminality.  It is inexcusable and certain, as marked by Mr. Rogers admission of guilt.

It affects each and everyone of us, not only in this Organization, but in our profession, when an officer crosses the line they swore an oath to uphold.

We will continue to follow the case through to its conclusion at sentencing. Now that Mr. Rogers has pled guilty, he will be subject to the same monitoring for compliance with court imposed conditions upon sentencing that every other convicted criminal is.
