Sudden Death – Update #2 – August 4, 2026

After continued investigation, charges against a 45-year-old Peterborough woman in connection with a homicide in early June have been upgraded to first degree murder.

Sarah-Jayne Maier was re-arrested and charged with first-degree murder and will appear in court today, August 4, 2026.

Drug Investigation

A 32-year-old Peterborough man is facing numerous charges after a drug investigation.

On July 31st, 2026, members of the Peterborough Police Drug and Intelligence Unit, while conducting a drug investigation, identified a male conducting drug transactions in the area of Reid and McDonnel Streets.

Investigators with the assistance of uniformed officers located the male in the area of Reid Street and Simcoe Street, where he was arrested.

Officers located and seized:

• 12 grams of Cocaine  
• 91 grams of Fentanyl  
• 5 grams of methamphetamine
• 138 pills of Dilaudid
• Hatchet
• Knives
• Drug paraphernalia
• Canadian currency

The estimated street value of the seized drugs is $11,000.00

As a result of the investigation a 32-year-old Peterborough man was charged with the following offences:

• Possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking X4, (fentanyl, cocaine, methamphetamine, and Dilaudid)
• Possession of proceeds of crime under $5,000
• Possession of a prohibited weapon 

The male was held in custody and appeared in Weekend and Statutory Holiday (WASH) court on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at which time he was remanded into custody and will appear in court today, August 4, 2026.

Failure to Comply Arrest

A 43-year-old Peterborough man is facing several charges after a call for service about an unwanted person Friday evening.

At approximately 8:55pm on July 31, 2026, officers spotted a man lying on a driveway and stopped to check on his well-being when it was learned the man was wanted in connection with another call for service. Officers determined that the man was breaching conditions of an undertaking and took him into custody.  During a search after arrest officers located and seized a conducted energy weapon, bank cards not in the man’s name and a small quantity of methamphetamine.

As a result of the investigation, a 43-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:

• Failure to comply with undertaking
• Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
• Carrying concealed weapon
• Possession of Firearm or Ammunition contrary to Prohibition Order X3
• Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000 - in Canada
• Possession of a Schedule I Substance - Methamphetamine
• Fail to Comply with Probation Order

The accused is currently bound by three prohibition orders to not possess any weapon as defined by the Criminal Code and a probation order with the following condition to keep the peace and be of good behaviour.

The accused was held in custody and appeared in Weekend and Statutory Holiday (WASH) court on Saturday, August 1, 2026.

Impaired Arrest

A 28-year-old Otonabee man is facing charges after several calls for service early Saturday morning.

At approximately 12:05am on August 1, 2026, officers were called to a business in the King Street and George Street area about an unwanted patron threatening security staff.  Upon arrival officers were directed to a man who was now in his vehicle. When approached by officers the man took off in the vehicle narrowly missing a police vehicle and in close proximity to pedestrians. The driver then went through a red light before veering off the road.  Officers did not pursue and the vehicle was located at the driver’s residence.  The driver was found hiding under a second vehicle in the driveway and taken into custody. During the arrest, officers noticed signs of impairment.

As a result of the investigation, a 28-year-old Otonabee man was arrested and charged with:

• Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
• Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
• Uttering Threats - Cause death or Bodily Harm
• Flight from peace officer
• Dangerous operation

The accused was issued an automatic 90-day license suspension and seven-day vehicle impoundment.

The accused was held in custody and appeared in Weekend and Statutory Holiday (WASH) court on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at which time he was released on a release order with conditions and is scheduled to return to court on August 25, 2026.

Impaired Arrest

A 56-year-old Peterborough woman is facing a charge of failure or refusal to comply with demand after an incident early Saturday morning.

At approximately 2:30am on August 1, 2026, officers were called to Hunter Street West after a vehicle drove over a barricade. Upon arrival, officers located the driver and noted signs of impairment however, the driver refused to comply with officer demands to complete a roadside test.

As a result of the investigation, a 56-year-old Peterborough woman was arrested and charged with:

• Failure or refusal to comply with demand

The accused was issued an automatic 90-day license suspense and seven-day vehicle impoundment.

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court September 8, 2026.
