School Zone Traffic Enforcement

Officers with the Peterborough Police Service and the Peterborough Police Service Traffic Unit continue to conduct traffic enforcement in school zones as students return from summer break.

On Tuesday, September 2, 2025, officers issued 17 tickets across Peterborough, Lakefield and Cavan-Monaghan during the morning and after school rush.

Peterborough: 12 tickets issued

  • Speeding including one driver going 73km/h in a 40km/h zone
  • Fail to Stop
  • Cellphone Use

Lakefield: 4 tickets issued

  • Speeding including one driver going 76km/h in a 40km/h zone
  • Fail to Stop

Cavan-Monaghan: 1 ticket issued

  • Speeding

Officers also issued three warnings to motorists.

The Back-to-School enforcement campaign will continue over the next few weeks.

Utter Threats Arrest

A 29-year-old Peterborough man is facing charges after an incident Tuesday morning.

At approximately 9:50am on September 2, 2025, officers were called to a residence in the Brock Street and Aylmer Street area. Upon arrival, they learned that a security guard had asked the man to wait outside as access to the building was for residents only. The man became upset, banging on the glass, yelling racial slurs and verbally threatening the guard before leaving the area. Several hours later, officers locates a man matching the description given to police in a parking lot and took him into custody.

As a result of the investigation, a 29-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:

  • Uttering Threats - Cause death or Bodily Harm
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order

The accused is currently bound by a probation order with the following condition: to keep the peace and be of good behaviour.

The accused is being held in custody and will appear in court today, September 3, 2025.

This incident has been identified as a hate bias crime, as such, that component will be addressed through the court process.

Theft Arrest

A 41-year-old Peterborough man is facing charges after two incidents Tuesday afternoon.

At approximately 2:50pm on September 2, 2025, officers with the Community FIRST Unit had just completed a theft investigation at a store in the High Street and Borden Avenue area in which a 41-year-old man was arrested, charged and released. Just as officers were leaving the area another call came in about a theft at a store in the Lansdowne Street and Ford Street area. Officers were directed to a nearby parking lot and realized that the suspect was the same man from the previous investigation. The suspect was taken into custody. In both cases, all items were recovered and returned to the stores.

As a result, a 41-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:

  • Theft Under $5000 (First incident)
  • Theft Under $5000 (Second incident)

The accused is being held in custody and will appear in court today, September 3, 2025.

Drug Arrests

Two Peterborough residents are facing charges after an incident at Quaker Square in Peterborough.

At approximately 3:00pm on September 2, 2025, officers on general patrol in the downtown spotted a man and a woman doing drugs with a large amount of drug paraphernalia around them. Under the Safer Public Spaces initiative, officers took them into custody. During a search after arrest officers located and seized a prohibited knife on the male and a quantity of drugs with the female.

In all officers seized:

  • A prohibited knife
  • 4.3 grams - Fentanyl
  • 20 grams - Cocaine
  • 6 grams - Hashish
  • 1 gram - Methamphetamine
  • 0.9 grams - Crack cocaine
  • Drug paraphernalia
  • Small amount of Canadian currency

As result of the investigation:

A 44-year-old Peterborough woman was arrested and charged with:

  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking- Other Drugs

The accused is being held in custody and will appear in court today, September 3, 2025.

A 55-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:

  • Possession of a prohibited device or ammunition

The accused was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court October 14, 2025.
