Fail to Stop/Theft of Motor Vehicle Arrest
A 39-year-old Peterborough man is facing charges after two incidents in the past few days.
At approximately 5:50pm on Saturday, June 13, 2026, officers were called about a motor vehicle collision in the area of Lansdowne Street and Monaghan Road. Upon arrival, they learned that the two drivers had become involved in an altercation after one vehicle was struck by the other. As the driver of one of the vehicles fled the scene, they struck a light post and drove through a parking lot before crashing into a tree. The driver then ran away from the vehicle. As a result of the investigation a warrant was requested for the arrest of the driver.
At approximately 12:15pm on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, officers received a call that the same driver had just taken a vehicle, phone, and credit cards from a person known to them. Through investigation the vehicle was located in a parking lot at the corner of Lansdowne Street and Park Street. Officers then learned that the suspect had entered the store and made a purchase with a credit card before returning to a nearby residence where he was taken into custody without incident.
As a result of both investigations, a 39-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:
- Operation While Prohibited under the Criminal Code X2
- Use of Credit Card
- Possession Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000 - in Canada
- Robbery with Theft
- Theft of Motor Vehicle
