Media Release for Monday, June 29, 2026
Assault
A 21 year old Peterborough man and a Campbellford youth were arrested on Saturday night after an altercation.
At approximately 8:30pm on June 27, 2026, Peterborough Police received multiple 911 called about an ongoing assault in the area of the Trans Canada Trail Bridge in Peterborough, and requested for police and ambulance to attend. Officers arrived on scene and were directed to two individuals that were walking away from the scene. Officers advised both individuals to stop, but both continued, walking into live traffic away from the officers. A short foot pursuit began. Officers placed both men under arrest. During the arrest, two Peterborough Police officers were assaulted. One officer was struck in the face, another was kicked and spit on.
The victim of the initial assault was transported to PRHC by ambulance.
As a result of the investigation, the 21 year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:
- Assault
- Resist Peace Officer
- Being Intoxicated in a Public Place (LLCA)
As a result of the investigation, a youth was arrested and charged with:
- Assault
- Assault a Peace Officer x2
- Resist Peace Officer
- Breach of Probation order (P.O.A.)
- Being Intoxicated in a Public Place (LLCA)
Both accused were held for Weekend and Statutory Holiday (WASH) court on June 28, 2026.
Weapons / Trespass by Night
A 26 year-old Peterborough man was arrested for trespassing by night, and weapon offences on Saturday night.
At approximately 10:00pm on Saturday, June 27 2026, Peterborough Police received a call from a resident stating that a man with a knife had been located at the rear of the residence. Officers arrived to the residence and located the accused being held on the ground by homeowner and neighbours. The accused had been disarmed prior to police arrival.
As a result of the investigation, the 26 year-old Peterborough Man was arrested and charged with:
- Trespassing at Night
- Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
- Fail to Comply with Probation Order
The accused is currently bound by a probation order with the following condition: to keep the peace and be of good behaviour.
The accused was held for Weekend and Statutory Holiday (WASH) court on June 28, 2026.
Theft/ Fail to Comply With Probation
A 27 year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with theft and failing to comply with probation orders on Friday afternoon.
At approximately 3:00pm on Friday, June 26, 2026 officers received information regarding a theft of various personal items from a vehicle in downtown Peterborough. Officers attended various businesses to obtain information, and through the investigation were able to identify an accused.
As a result of the investigation, a 26-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:
- Theft under $5000
- Fail to comply with a probation order x5
The accused is currently bound by 5 separate probation orders.
The accused was released on an undertaking and scheduled to attend court on September 22, 2026.
