Traffic Detail

Members of the Peterborough Police Service Traffic Unit conducted an enforcement detail on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, focusing on several high complaint areas and Community Safety Zones within the City of Peterborough and Village of Lakefield.

Community Safety Zones are designated on roadways where public safety is of a special concern to the community. These areas are typically around schools. The fines for offences committed in these areas are higher than in non-designated areas.

34 Charges were laid under the Highway Traffic Act for various offences including:

  • Speeding in a Community Safety Zone X22
  • Disobey Stop Sign - Fail to stop X2
  • Amber light - Fail to stop X3
  • Red light - Fail to stop
  • Passing on roadway when not clear
  • Driver - Fail to properly wear seatbelt

The Traffic Unit will continue to hold various traffic enforcement details throughout the year to help keep our roads safe.

Thank you to the drivers who chose to obey the speed limit.  The Traffic Unit did see an improvement in the number of drivers complying with the speed limits in Community Safety Zones.
